Rōpū Whakapapa
A group specifically for Ākonga Māori
The purpose of this group is to guide students as they learn from their whānau and other students at school about their whakapapa. It is about the school doing what we can to support ākonga Māori to reclaim their reo, cultural practices and understandings. This group is for Year 5-8 students of māori descent.
Participation in this group will require students to go home and talk with whānau about their whakapapa and record any local stories from their iwi, including waiata and haka.
Members of this group will present their learning at the end of year whānau hui.
The teacher facilitating this group keeps regular communication with whānau about what students are focusing on.
This group meets once a week during school time and requires parental permission as it requires a high level of whānau support.
